The 2026 Frontier isn’t a redesign, but it isn’t untouched either.

Ignore the Owners Manual: Got a Turbo? Use Premium Fuel.

When a manufacturer says the engine is “designed for regular fuel,” it means:     • The ECU is programmed to handle knock safely on 87.     • Knock WILL happen on 87 during real driving.     • The engine won’t destroy itself because the computer will intervene.     • The manufacturer won’t lose buyers frightened by the word “premium.” It does not mean:     • The engine performs its best on 87     • Knock never occurs     • The internal parts experience identical stress     • Fuel economy and power are the same     • Long-term deposits will be the same It means the engine can survive on regular. Not thrive. Not operate at optimal timing. Not maintain ideal internal temperatures. Just survive.
